This year I have discovered many products that I am most definitely going to repurchase. I have by no means perfected my skincare regimen or my makeup routine, but I have definitely come along way with the products that I bought this year.
1| MAC Lipstick in Diva
This is by far the product that I am most satisfied with this year. I can, with a hand over my hard, say that this is my Holy Grail lipstick. It certainly a purse staple. This is a matte lipstick, and MAC describes it as an intense reddish-burgundy. The lipstick glides on and lasts for a long time; of course depending on how much you drink or eat. I also find that lipstick leaves a nice strain but the edges might be a bit harsher, thus giving you the “only lip liner”- look. This shade does not really require a lip liner, unless you want darker edges. The colour itself gives a crisp line, well that also depends on how good you are at putting on lipstick (not that I am an expert).
The best thing about this lipstick is that it is matte, but not drying or at least I do not find it so. This is after all my first MAC lipstick, so I cannot speak for all of them. What I will do is definitely check out more of their lipsticks.
2| bareMinerals Original Foundation in Warm Tan
I have been looking for a foundation for long time, and I think I have found one worth repurchasing. One of the key factors as to why I fell for this one is that it is a powder. I have always felt that powder would be best for my oily skin, and I was right. I tend to get oily around the t-zone (as most of us do).
There is a matte version of this foundation, but I went for the original thinking that I could always powder over it. Or just use a good primer and so far, it has worked. I was lucky enough to be in the shade that is was, as it is the darkest shade they had available. Norway does not have a very good colour section yet.
3| Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask
Overnight mask to quench skin’s thirst, it says on the packaging and it does. What was at first an impulse buy at the Changi airport to use up all of my Singapore dollars, are now a staple in my skin care regime! I use it once a week, and always look forward to waking up to a replenished face. All I do is wash my face, then apply this instead of my normal night cream, and just go to bed. A little goes a long way. The first time I used it, I made the mistake of squeezing out too much and having to smear on an extra layer, just so I would not waste any.
The mask does not dry so you can still feel it sitting on your skin even after a while. However, I do not find that a problem because I am fast asleep by then! The cream also has a nice sent to it, almost fruity (and that is as far as my describing abilities go!). It says in the package that it can be used twice a week or as desired, but I like to stick to one. My skin is usually oily, but around wintertime, I get some dry spots that the mask takes care of.
4| Real Techniques Expert Face brush
This thing is a God-given gift. The bristles are so soft that sometimes I find myself just brushing my face with it even when I am not applying makeup. It is that soft! This is one of two RT brushes that I have(the other being the shading brush, which I use for concealer instead of its original purpose).
Overall, I think this is a perfect brush for liquid foundation, even though I have only used it with my bareMinerals foundation. In fact, I bought it within a week of buying the foundation. Unfortunately, I cannot compare this to other brushes, as this is one of my very first makeup brushes. What I do know is that I am going to check out the rest of their line, especially the setting brush.
5| Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water
I used to be an avid makeup wipes user, even when they used to break me out. Then this miracle came along and saved my face. I use this both for removing makeup and when I have one of my no-makeup-days and want to refresh. This does really take off makeup and dirt; however, I still use an oil-based remover for my eye makeup.
Where the certain makeup wipes left my skin dry and irritated, the micellar water left it cool and refreshed. I have gotten less breakouts since I started using this, but I cannot say that it has cleared my skin more than that. Another bonus is the size of the bottle, a whole of 400 ml. I bought this back in April and I have a little less than half left. It says in the bottle that it has six months before it expires, but I have held onto it for longer than that and have not noticed any differences in its effect on my skin or anything else.
That was all of my best beauty buys of 2015. May the year that is ahead of us be just as prosperous in the beauty world as is it was this year! I hope you enjoyed reading this and got some product suggestions to try out in the coming year. I would like to point out that I am a new beginner when it comes to blogging, and this is my second blog post ever. Any suggestions as to improvements or anything at all, please tell me (as it would be greatly appreciated). Thank you for reading so far!
